THE PARK-Echo Park

Had the pleasure of enjoying a family brunch at this quintessential hole in the wall in Echo Park. It fits all of the criteria: small, different, reasonably priced and good eats. I was a big fan of the traditional french toast for $5. Very impressed. Thanks to the Echo Park family for introducing my acquaintance to this fine establishment.

Hole in the Wall criteria

What is the criteria that makes a "hole in the wall" restaurant?

Is it...
inexpensive
mom and pop
hard to find
home made food
can it be a chain or franchise

???

Antonio's Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant

Easily the best Italian I have ever had. NewYork, New Jersey is great, but never had it quite like this. Great atmosphere with a little bit of attitude, I love it.

Check it out in Sherman Oaks

Best Pastrami Sandwhich

It doesn't get any better than this. A Los Angeles classic, Langer's Deli in downtown. Clean and classic deli/diner feel. Probably has not been renovated in years, but that's part of the appeal for real "hole in the wall"(ers)-no pun intended ( if you don't get it that's quite alright). They have matzah ball Soup that strongly competes with my mother's. But, their thick hot pastrami sandwich is absolutely amazing. Throw a little Russian dressing and sauerkraut on top to top it off and wash it down with a Dr. Brown's black cherry. Go with friends. Be safe, because this is a true hole in the wall.

Check out their website. They have a great American success story about some nice Jewish boys.
